The basics

What Is a Balloon Wall?

A balloon wall covers an entire surface, usually 6 to 10 feet across, with balloons so it can stand in as a backdrop.

An arch frames a space and a balloon garland follows a line, but a balloon wall fills the whole rectangle. It's built on a grid or a standalone frame, so it can sit in front of any wall, a window or even an open barn side, and work as a photo backdrop, a stage background, a wall behind the cake or a branded backdrop for a launch. If you want an arch instead, that page has every size and style.

Square foot for square foot, nothing in balloon decor makes a bigger statement. Walls work for birthdays, bachelorette parties, weddings, grad parties, gender reveals, holiday events and corporate nights, and because there's no gap for the room behind to peek through, every photo looks finished.

Wall styles

Types of Balloon Walls We Build

There are five main ways to build a balloon wall, and each has its own look and price point.

Organic balloon walls

Mixed sizes are layered across the full surface until it looks like a soft, textured cloud. Organic walls are the most luxurious option and the one couples, shower hosts and milestone-birthday planners ask for most. They also take the most balloons, which puts them at the top of our price list.

Grid and link balloon walls

A grid wall, which you may see called a quick link balloon wall or a balloon wall link, uses linking balloons tied together into a net so each one sits in a tidy row. Because of that structure you can work a heart, a checkerboard, stripes or a simple shape into it. It's graphic and sharp, and great for team and brand colors.

Framed balloon walls

A framed wall packs balloons inside a shaped frame: a rectangle, an arched chiara-style frame or a circle. The outline does half the design work, with arched frames feeling elegant, squares feeling modern and rings feeling playful.

Foil and mylar balloon walls

Foil walls use mylar balloons, often hearts, stars or squares in metallic finishes. They bounce light around, look great on camera and contain no latex, which matters when a guest has an allergy or the venue doesn't permit latex.

Floating and lighted balloon walls

A floating wall is made from helium balloons on ribbons, anchored in rows so the whole surface sways gently. It's a showstopper for a few hours, not a few days. For evening parties we can also weave LED strings or light-up balloons through a wall, which works nicely for New Year's Eve and late receptions.

Uses

Ways to Use a Balloon Wall

A balloon wall pulls its weight because it handles several jobs at once.

Balloon photo wall

The selfie and group-shot spot. Add a neon sign or a name in vinyl and there will be a line for it all night.

Cake and dessert backdrop

Put the wall behind the cake table and the photos stay clean, no matter what's behind it.

Stage, band and head-table background

Behind a live band, a DJ, an awards podium or the wedding party's table.

Branded backdrop

A grid wall in company colors with a logo panel, for launches, galas, conferences and trade show booths.

Room divider

Screens off a catering area, a bar setup or a storage corner in a rented hall or barn.

Gender reveal moment

A neutral wall with a hidden panel to pop, or a wall that turns pink or blue on the reveal side.

Occasions

Balloon Walls for Birthdays, Bachelorettes, Weddings and Grad Parties

These are the celebrations that book balloon walls most often.

  • Birthdays: walls for kids' parties and 18th, 21st and 30th birthdays, often with a name or age set into the design.
  • Bachelorette weekends: pink, white and chrome walls in the rental house, or a disco-themed foil wall for a night in before Broadway.
  • Weddings and bridal showers: ivory, blush and champagne organic walls behind the sweetheart table or at the reception door.
  • Graduations and prom: grid walls in school colors with the class year, plus glam walls for prom pictures.
  • Gender reveals and baby showers: neutral walls with a reveal built in, or soft pastels for a shower.
  • Valentine's Day: red, pink and rose-gold foil heart walls.
  • Christmas and New Year's Eve: red, green and gold for the holidays; black, gold and silver chrome for the countdown.
  • Corporate events: branded walls for openings, galas, conferences and company parties.

Installation

Installing a Balloon Wall Without Marking Your Paint

The short version: we never fasten anything to your walls.

Each wall stands on its own frame with a weighted base. At home that protects paint from tape and glue dots. At hotels and event venues, which commonly prohibit tape, nails and adhesives, it keeps you inside the rules. Short-term rental hosts tend to feel the same way, and barn venues with rough plank siding give you nothing to attach to anyway. A freestanding wall can also be nudged a few feet on the day if the layout changes.

  1. 1

    Measure

We confirm the wall dimensions, the ceiling height, outlets for any lights and the route from the door to the spot.

  2. 2

    Build

Bigger walls go up in panels that are joined on-site and fluffed until the seams vanish.

  3. 3

    Finish

Signs, vinyl, foil accents and lights go on last, and we check the wall from wherever the camera will be.

What's the best way to hang balloons on a wall? Put them on a frame that stands in front of the wall, rather than on the wall itself. If you do attach balloons directly, use removable hooks and fishing line instead of tape, and test the adhesive in a hidden spot first.

Longevity

How Long Do Balloon Walls Last?

Air-filled walls hold up for days indoors; floating helium walls are good for hours.

Indoors with air conditioning, an air-filled organic or grid wall keeps its shape for several days, often a full week, and foil walls outlast both. Helium floating walls begin to sag within hours. If a wall has to go outdoors during a Nashville summer, keep it in shade and build it on the day, because sun and heat oxidize and pop latex fast. In winter, keep it inside; freezing air makes latex shrink and crease.

Questions

Balloon Walls in Nashville: FAQ

What is a balloon wall?

A balloon wall is a solid, freestanding surface of balloons, typically 6 to 10 feet wide, used as a photo backdrop, a stage background or a wall behind the cake. It can be organic, grid-style, framed or made from foil balloons.

How much do balloon walls cost?

Our foil walls start at $110 for 8×5 ft, grid walls at $375 and organic balloon walls at $650 for 8×8 ft. Size, style and extras set the final price, and delivery and setup are included in our core area.

How long do balloon walls last?

Air-filled walls last several days indoors, often a week, and foil walls last longer still. Floating helium walls last a few hours, and outdoor walls in Nashville summer sun last only hours.

What size balloon wall do I need?

Most people choose 8×8 ft, which covers a group shot or the space behind a cake table. Go down to 6×6 ft for a small room or photos of two, and up to 8×10 ft or a custom width for a stage or head table.

Will a balloon wall damage my walls?

No. Every wall we build sits on its own weighted stand a few inches out from yours, so tape, nails and glue never come near the paint, which keeps rental hosts and venue managers happy too.

What do you call a wall of balloons linked in rows?

A grid wall or link wall. Linking balloons are tied together into a net, which lets you build rows, patterns, shapes and logos.

Can a balloon wall be latex-free?

Yes. Foil (mylar) walls contain no latex and are the right pick for guests with latex allergies or venues that don't allow it.

Can a balloon wall show a name or a logo?

Yes. Names are added in custom vinyl or as a neon sign; logos go on a panel set into the wall or are worked into a grid wall in brand colors.
